Our central
philosophy here at Sunshine Health Facilities states:
"We exist to treat each individual with the respect, reverence, and
dignity fitting to one created in the image of God."
Sunshine Health Facilities had its start in May 1949, when Ellen C.
Craig purchased a 14-bed nursing home in downtown Spokane. In 1965,
Community Nursing Home in the Spokane Valley was purchased. The
three-story structure originally was a part of Spokane University.
Eventually, management was transferred to Mrs. Craig’s daughter and
son-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Dikes. and Community Nursing Home was
renamed Sunshine Gardens.
In 1990, Sunshine Gardens moved into a new 84-bed skilled nursing
facility next door to the existing building. After being re-licensed
into a 30-bed residential care facility, that building became known
as Sunshine Terrace.
A new Sunshine Terrace was built in 1998 as a 70-bed boarding home.
The original Sunshine Terrace was renamed that Sunshine House in honor of
the first nursing home founded by Mrs. Craig. At the same time
Sunshine Terrace was built, Sunshine Fitness Center was constructed.
In 2004 Sunshine Fitness Center added Sunshine Physical Therapy. In
this building, we aid in the rehabilitation process for those with
various musculoskeletal injuries. Exercise equipment and massage
therapy continue to be offered.
Currently, we are in our fourth generation of family members caring
for our residents. The Bible writes that "the blessings of the
righteous will be passed down for future generations." Sunshine
Health Facilities is living proof of God's grace that all began with
the compassion of one woman.

"Mom was only with Sunshine Gardens a little more than a month, but
her last few weeks here on earth were safe, comfortable, and filled
with caring thoughts and service from your staff." |
